Thy Will Be Done

one

Thy Will be Done!

I want you to sit with these two questions.

●      What happiness do I want?

●      What happiness does God want for me?

Those two things may not be the same.

When you realize that your will might not be aligned with God’s will, your first response might be dread. We are terrified of giving up the things we want for ourselves. But there’s really no need for that fear. It is not that we want something great for ourselves and God does not want something great for us, but that our imagination is small. God’s gifts and the happiness He wants for me exceed my imagination.

We, on the other hand, limit ourselves by being attached to our idea of happiness.

We cannot receive the happiness God wants to give until we totally detach from our limited plan.

So, detach, let go of your vision and tell God you choose His.

two

Make an act of detachment, of abandonment at the beginning of every day.

I like this one from Bl. Charles de Faucauld

My Father,

I abandon myself to You

Do with me whatever you want

Whatever you do with me, I thank you.

I accept everything.

May your will be done in me and in all your creation.

I don’t desire anything else.

I entrust myself into Your hands.

I give myself to you Father, because I love you.

I need to give myself, and place myself into your hands,

Without holding back anything,

With infinite trust

Because You are my Father.

Of course as Christians we know that we should do the Will of God. But it’s in the heat of the moment that we fail to do so. When we are in a rage, or between a rock in a hard place, our emotions get the best of us. Temptations get the best of us, even if we think we know better. It’s not that we don’t know what’s right, but we don’t feel what’s right and we’re moved by that feeling.

So we must continuously ask the questions: what happiness do I want; and what happiness does God want for me?

This will help us refocus on and choose the will of God; It will help us to think before we act.

It will settle us when things don’t go as we desire or planned and we are becoming angry or fearful;

And it will steer us away from sin when we face strong temptations.

What happiness do I want? What happiness does God want to give me?

four

The problem with the will of God is that we don’t feel like doing it. Our feelings cause us problems.

The fastest way to correct the way we feel about the will of God is make an act of thanksgiving. Thank God for everything. Then we will begin to feel better about it.

Thank God for the good stuff; and thank God for the bad stuff.

Nothing can happen unless God wills or allows it. If He allows it, then it is His will and He will turn it in our favor because God works all things for good for those who love him.

So, thank Him for everything. And the way you feel about His will, will change.

If you want to know the will of God, ask Him.

Pauline Jaricot, the young woman 200 years ago who got 1 million people praying the Rosary in just a few short years is kind of our Patron Saint for our Rosary Movement. She will be Beatified in Lyon France this May 22. I’ve had the desire to go but was not sure.

This morning in prayer I asked Jesus and Mary, do you want me to go. Please show me.

I am telling you the truth, almost immediately, Sister Judith from the Little Sisters of the Lamb called me to say she just received an email from the Cardinal of Lyon France, he wants me to come to the Beatification and wanted to know if we could talk by phone today.

It doesn’t always work this way. But God is our Father. He is real and He wants to help us know His will and do it.

Funny how we so rarely ask Him directly to show us what to do.

Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For the one who asks always receives; the one who searches always finds; the one who knocks will always have the door opened to him.
